Dear Bollywood,
We have all grown up watching your movies and in some or the other way they have influenced us deeply, particularly in matters of love. We have all imagined a Rahul or an Anjali in our lives. However, with all due respect, there’s a pressing issue we need to address this Valentine’s Day – the portrayal of opposite gender friendships in your narratives.
Ek ladka aur ek ladki dost HO SAKTE HAI!
Friendship and love, while related, are unique relations, each deserving its own place. Yet, somewhere along the reels, the lines have blurred, and every platonic bond between a ladka and a ladki seems destined for a romantic ending.
We urge you to recognize the sanctity of friendship, irrespective of gender. Contrary to popular belief, a boy and a girl can indeed be friends without the looming threat of Cupid’s arrow. Such friendships transcend the mundane confines of gender stereotypes, offering meaning and a unique perspective on life.
Moreover, these friendships help in fostering a deeper understanding of the opposite gender’s thoughts and nature. They pave the way for more authentic and fulfilling relationships, rooted in mutual respect and understanding. For boys, particularly, they offer a safe space for emotional expression, free from the shackles of toxic masculinity.
So, dear Bollywood, we request you to embrace diversity in your storytelling, to celebrate the genuine human connection of a boy and girl friendship. Society needs better examples.
With hope and anticipation,
Your friends at Oopar.Club
