Oopar Photography Contest: Everyday Moments from Members Perspective

Life is a series of beautiful moments, moments that we often overlook. But only if we could pay enough attention to these fluttering moments, we would have realize the beauty behind these beautiful memories. The idea for our recent photography contest was to acknowledge the beauty behind these everyday moments of life. The theme for this Oopar photography contest was to click on one picture from their daily lives that is also special to them.

At Oopar Club, we also organized a workshop on photography for our members, to help them learn better techniques for mobile photography. You can also check out that workshop from the link here: https://youtu.be/5eclaO9NQ1U?si=ksfbI76R-DuXTPSR

More than 25 members from our community participated in the contest and shared their best clicks along with a story of what made that moment so special for them. The responses and perspectives beneath those beautiful clicks by our members were truly inspiring. Though we had two winners in the photography contest, Mano Bhargava and Vishal.

These winners by chosen by one of the renowned photographers, Thivakaran MS. But while Thivakaran MS saw these pictures from a professional lens, the stories and emotions behind each of the member’s submissions could be felt by us. And here are the elements of these images and the narrations that made this photography contest so special for us. Thus, here we are to share the same stories and perspectives of our members with you!

The Cloud of Dreams:

Rajath and Pankaj shared images capturing the clouds in the sky. As if it was an attempt to capture the vastness of these clouds through their phones. While Pankaj writes that this is a picture of unfiltered and raw nature, that brings him the aspiration to reach beyond the limits, Rajath, on the other hand, clicks the image of clouds as a memory from his Work From Home days.

The Beauty of Divine Nature:

Nature has a unique way of turning everyday moments into special memories. Simple things, like the sound of leaves rustling in the wind or the warm colors of a sunset, make us stop and appreciate the beauty around us. A walk in the park, with the smell of fresh rain and the songs of birds, can fill us with eternal peace and joy. Sometimes, even watching a flower bloom or a butterfly flutter can make an ordinary day feel magical. These small moments with nature remind us of the beauty in our daily lives and become precious memories we hold onto. Nature’s little wonders truly captured a lot of people’s attention.

As Pujita shares

“I visited a lotus pond in full bloom, and this little one’s clarity of reflection made such a pretty view that it immediately caught my attention. After I got home, I was so fascinated by the vibrant Lotus that I sat down to research more about lotuses and found some very cool facts on how they grow.

Did you know that, as beautiful as the lotuses are, the intricate root systems below the surface area just as fascinating?

Just like Oopar club.

Everyone comes into Oopar through appealing events that catch your eye easily and seem like good fun… but then you go in and realise that the club is actually enabling people and giving them a chance at fostering genuine connections beyond the surface!

So when I read about this photography exercise, I figured what better entry than this one where the metaphor writes itself!?”

Sharanya shares

an image straight from the trees in Cubbon Park, and she expresses,

“I would consider this as my best photo as I love nature . It’s always so peaceful and beautiful. This was taken in Cubbon Park and it was worth to a picture!”

Megha shares

another image straight from the nature of Frangipani aKa Plumeria. She shares how this commonly grown flower often gives her childhood nostalgia, as this is the most familiar flower she has grown up seeing around.

Ashwin shares

an image of trees, houses, and peacocks straight from his hometown. Along with these images he adds the line “Nothing beats your native home surroundings!”

The Magical Box of Memories:

Naina from Yeh Jawani hai Deewani once said, “Yadein mithai ke dabbe ki tarah hoti hain… Ek baar khula toh sirf ek tukda nahi kha paoge.” And I think this perfectly sums up the narratives our members have shared related to the memories behind these clicks. The stories were full of nostalgia, and joy. Here’s the story each of these pictures carries with it.

Vamsi shares

about a beautiful and spontaneous proposal made by his friend and he writes, “There is a special moment for this location. We as gang went to Kerala trip, My guy friend planned to propose one of my friend in Munnar behind the beautiful coffe plantations however he could not propose due to heavy rains in Munnar. He’s very disappointed and we saw this location while returning back from Munnar. We have spent 2 hours in this location and he finally proposed her. Now they are a happy couple 🙂

I was very happy for him when she accepted right at this place.”

The Dusk of Love and Light:

The dusk is one of the most beautiful moments of nature. As the sun sets, it paints the sky with warm, golden hues that slowly fade into soft shades of pink, purple, and blue. This brief period, where day meets night, creates a peaceful atmosphere that invites us to reflect and unwind. Dusk is a gentle reminder of the natural cycles of life, marking the end of one day and the quiet beginning of the night. Whether you’re in a busy city or a quiet countryside, the beauty of dusk encourages us to pause, take a breath, and appreciate the world around us. And maybe that’s the reason to why so many of our members have found solace in this evening light.

Here’s what they have to say about the evenings capturing sunsets.

Mano writes,

““Even if you are not ready for the day, it cannot always be night” – Gwendolyn Brooks

As the first light of dawn breaks the darkness, the sun’s gentle rise casting its golden glow, the moon’s graceful departure, and the bird’s elegant dance across the canvas of the sky, I am reminded of the infinite possibilities each new day offers. This photograph was taken on a morning hike to nearby hills, capturing a beautiful sunrise with a fully visible sun, the moon fading away as a tiny white translucent dot, and an eagle stretching its wings wide, flying through the brightest to the darkest part of the sky.

Initially, I took this picture randomly, not realizing its significance until I reviewed my photos later in a relaxed setting. It turned out to be a profound example for me, symbolizing resilience and the ability to adapt. On the same day, just a couple of hours after capturing this serene moment, I experienced a physical setback while rock climbing. I tumbled, injuring my knee, which led to inflammation and a painful recovery period. Though the injury was minor, it significantly affected my ability to walk and run normally. During this time, I felt disheartened by my physical limitations.

However, as the days passed, I came to a powerful realization: every day offers a fresh start, an opportunity to rebuild our strength and spirit. This photograph now serves as a reminder that life is about embracing new beginnings, no matter the challenges we face. Each sunrise brings renewed hope and the chance to persevere, adapt, and continue our journey with purpose and meaning. This experience has deeply enriched my perspective, making this moment and this photograph incredibly special to me.”

While Neha writes,

“This is so beautiful. The picture and the story.

New beginnings are always tough, the ones that stem out of a tough past more than others. But we are so proud of you for taking these steps and are super happy to see you feeling a little more at home. 🧡

We hope your new home and your new beginning bring you a ton of happiness. Here’s to everything coming ahead. 🍻

We want you to know if you ever feel alone, we are always here for you.”

Vishal shares,

The photo is taken at a Valparai Tea Estate. It was during a trip with my two closest friends after a long time. That made the moment a bit more special. If you notice, those three trees are just a reflection of we three idiots.

And to sum it all up,

Vardhan beautifully writes,

“It makes me peaceful such a beautiful sunset.”

The Magic of Perspectives:

The world around us is full of beautiful objects and people, and our members showed that to us again. From their daily life, our members did curate lots of stories that are unique to their own perspectives about things and life in general.

Ketan brings us a new and fresh perspective about an upside sown image,

This is a lovely and really well thought of submission. Thanks for this beautiful snap and keep bringing out the photographer within you 😊 The reason I took this photo.. is it shows a city skyline.. and feels like it’s people standing upside down, against gravity… whereas it’s the reflection on the mirrored ceiling.

While Rohit hits nostalgia lane with a memory straight from his college memories,

capturing the evolution of this hostel at Medical College is thrilling. It’s not just a building site; it’s the birthplace of future healers’ journeys. Enjoy this peek into the future!

John writes:

Amid twilight’s glow, a spider spun a masterpiece, each thread glistening with dew. As dawn broke, its web mirrored the rising sun, a fleeting canvas of nature’s ephemeral beauty.

That was all about this photography contest and the beauty our members could see in these images. We would love to congratulate our members – Mano Bhargava and Vishal again for winning this photography contest!!
